Welcome to a Safe Space for Transformation

How can counselling support you?

Counselling offers a safe and confidential space to explore the challenges you may be facing in life. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, low self-esteem, or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy can help you begin to make sense of your experiences and develop new ways of coping.

In our work together, you’ll have the opportunity to talk openly and be heard without judgement. Taking that first step can feel daunting, so sessions move at a pace that feels right for you; there’s no pressure or a fixed number of sessions. What matters most is creating an environment where you feel supported and able to explore what’s going on beneath the surface.

My approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on increasing self-awareness and understanding how past experiences may be influencing your present thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Alongside this, I integrate techniques from person-centred therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) to tailor support to your individual needs.

This means we can work together in a way that feels both insightful and practical; helping you not only to understand yourself more deeply, but also to find tools to manage everyday challenges.

  • Gain clarity and self-understanding

  • Recognise and change unhelpful patterns of behaviour

  • Build healthier relationships with yourself and others

  • Develop emotional resilience and confidence

  • Find ways to manage difficult thoughts and feelings

  • Move towards a greater sense of balance, fulfilment and wellbeing

Learning About My Experience

Emma Cullum

BACP Psychodynamic Therapist

Due to own personal experiences, as I developed, I struggled with dysfunctional behaviours, unhelpful defences and engaged in self-destructive behaviours. Only through therapy have I been able to develop a greater understanding that has led to personal growth and has helped me to start living my life to its full potential. I have drawn from my own therapeutic journey and pride myself on being an open, honest, compassionate therapist, all the things that helped me throughout my own personal challenges.

For me I have always wanted to help people and qualified in care and support work at the age of 17 and continued to that until I qualified in therapeutic counselling in August 2023. I worked for a private rehabilitation facility for 18 months working with people struggling with substance misuse, addictive behaviours and mental health struggles.

Qualifications and Professional Body Memberships

I regularly refresh and expand my skills to offer therapy that is both professional and supportive, keeping your safety and wellbeing at the heart of my work. My ongoing professional development includes training in areas such as counselling clients in substance misuse, working with suicidal clients, bereavement support, using timelines in counselling, the ACT Matrix, imposter syndrome in the therapy room, and key techniques in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Individual Counselling

About Our Sessions

I offer a warm, confidential space where you can talk openly and explore what’s going on for you. My main approach is psychodynamic therapy, which looks at how past experiences shape the present. I also draw on person-centred, CBT and DBT techniques to create a supportive and flexible way of working that suits your individual needs.

Before starting, I offer a free 20–30 minute consultation to ensure I’m the right fit for you. If you choose to continue, we’ll agree on a time that works best and begin gently with a short assessment to understand where you are right now. I offer morning, afternoon and evening sessions, aiming to make the process as comfortable and flexible as possible.
